I’m not sure of the original creator(s) of the idea of slot machines in race tracks, (Possibly Iowa-Prairie Meadows) but to their credit they succeeded in bringing that concept to reality. It quickly proved to be a generator of revenue. The concept eventually spread into states with large population centers and that became the death knell of the revenue stream flowing into horse racing. The numbers became so impressive that politicians were developing ulcers watching all this money escape their control. So they came up with a solution. They enabled this legislation for the purpose of lending financial support to a failing industry but now they would simply steal the proceeds. Why not? We can do so with impunity. If these people think you have too much bread on your table, they will quickly confiscate the excess. Be sure to remember them in November.
